“Call it a thank you, a cheers for all the help, or just a bloody good beer for the locals” – Russ Gosling, Head Brewer at Little Creatures Fremantle.
Brewed in Fremantle for the people of WA, the folks at Little Creatures have celebrated the launch of their new beer, Elsie. Elsie was specially crafted as a thank you to the locals who have continued to support the brewery since it opened its doors back in 2001.
Russ Gosling, Head Brewer at Little Creatures Fremantle, sums up the new beer as a refreshing ale, with hints of citrus, that give way to a subtle maltiness.
“Elsie was inspired by the gold rush era, the Steam Ales of California. It’s our adaptation, made fresh and locally on our very own West Coast. As a Western Australian brewery we’re proud of our roots so it felt only natural for us to make a beer just for WA,” said Russ.
So what’s in a name? The beer is named after Little Creatures’ faithful Kombi, Elsie, one of the original ‘Creatures’ who’s been with the brewery since day dot. Elsie cut her teeth doing ‘keg runs’, where she would lovingly deliver beer straight from the brewery to local venues back in the early 2000s.
These days Elsie is semi-retired but still holds pole position out the front of the brewery. She’s recently been given some much-needed TLC so keep an eye out for her delivering the first few kegs to venues around Fremantle.
Elsie really is the beer that keeps on giving.
Inspired by the laidback lifestyle enjoyed in WA, Elsie offered a helping hand to Coastcare at a community day on the 8th April, helping to keep the state’s shoreline in pristine condition.
The Creatures team got their hands dirty through a seedling potting day and weed removal from one of the local beaches. Everyone who volunteered for Coastcare was then invited to join the crew back at the brewery for a BBQ and a cold one.
Cheers to a solid effort all round.
