Federal Education Minister, Simon Birmingham, with Playgroup Australia at National Playgroup Week

RESEARCH SHOWS PLAYGROUP ATTENDANCE SUPPORTS DEVELOPMENT

As part of National Playgroup Week, Playgroup Australia launched new research from the Telethon Kids Institute; It takes a village to raise a child: the influence and impact of playgroups across Australia. The report revealed that children who attend playgroup are half as likely to have developmental vulnerabilities as those who don’t when they start primary school. We used this research to support our ongoing campaign to raise support and awareness for the Playgroup Movement by inviting the Federal Education Minister, Simon Birmingham, to attend a National Playgroup Week event at Luna Park with over 5,000 children, parents and carers present.

The Sun-Herald ran a feature piece on the research and the importance of playgroups and we secured coverage of the research on the ABC and many other lifestyle and parenting publications. For more
