Res Publica helps treat Stephen Fry to a Gaytime
When Sebastian Lazell, Chairman of Unilever Australia, saw Stephen Fry talk about iconic Australian food products during a recent performance at the Sydney Opera House, he saw a golden opportunity to get Streets Golden Gaytime in front of the renowned British raconteur.
Knowing Stephen is a prolific Twitterer, with more than 1.6 million followers, Res Publica, Streets’ PR agency, believed that if Golden Gaytime products could be delivered to Stephen Fry in a fun way, he might just mention the ice-cream online.
After some detective work to track down Stephen’s publicist, his hotel was discovered and a Golden Gaytime package, complete with a letter from Sebastian, a Gaytime t-shirt and product, was hand-delivered to Stephen’s hotel room via the concierge who agreed to make the delivery.
Stephen Tweeted twice:
Gosh, I’ve been sent a Golden (Australia’s fave ice-cream) gift package. How divine.
It may be hard to have a Golden Gaytime on your own, but I seem to managing
Stephen’s Tweets have been re-tweeted well over 100 times and the twitpics have been viewed more than 50,000 times. His tweets spurred a lot of comments from Gaytime fans, with people reminiscing about the product, saying they were going out to buy one and commenting on how great the t-shirt is.
Soap Creative, Streets‘ digital agency, syndicated Stephen’s tweet and picture on the Golden Gaytime Facebook page with more than 37,000 impressions of the post served to more than 58,000 fans.
Taking the success on Twitter one step further, Res Publica seeded news of Stephen Fry’s love for Golden Gaytime to traditional media, securing coverage in mX, Saturday Sydney Morning Herald and the Sun-Herald, with a combined circulation of almost 842,000.
Looks like a Gaytime good time was had by all!
